Plantar Fasciitis (Heel Spurs)
Plantar Fasciitis (pronounced plantar fashee-i-tis) commonly referred to as
"heel spurs" or "heel pain syndrome" affects approximately 40 million
Americans yearly. It affects men and women of all ages, and activity levels.
The most common symptom is morning pain, sharp shooting pain upon arising
from bed or a resting position.
Treated early, eighty-five to ninety percent of those diagnosed with plantar
fasciitis will heal with conservative treatment. Conservative measures
include rest, anti-inflammatory medication, steroidal injections,
cushioning, and conditioning exercise.
The OssaTron® Orthotripsy provides an alternate treatment for those who fail
conservative treatment. Prior to FDA approval of the OssaTron, the only
alternative for those who did not respond to conservative treatment was
invasive surgery with increased risk of infection and prolonged recovery
time.
The OssaTron has been proven highly effective for those with chronic
proximal plantar fasciitis. Studies conducted in the United States show an
81% success rate after a single treatment. Long term results show that
virtually all of those patients who were success at 12 week follow up visits
retained their success criteria at 12 months, and those who voluntarily
continued follow up visits did not have a recurrence of symptoms for as long
as 5 years. |
